Mental Health Training

An update to the Texas Administrative Code, Section 153.1015, was made in 2023 during the 88th legislative session. Specific mental health training for staff was to begin in the 2025-26 school year. The following timeline is placed in law:

  • 25% of applicable district employees must be trained by the start of the 2025-26 school year.
  • By the beginning of the 2026-27 school year, 50% of eligible district employees must receive training.
  • 75% of eligible district employees must undergo training by the beginning of the 2027-28 school year.
  • All applicable district employees must receive training by the beginning of the 2028-29 school year.

Mental Health Student Support Section

TxSP has provided two protocols regarding mental health in the Student Support Section. One is for mental health providers and records, and one is for the information regarding the Mental Health Training requirements. 

There is additionally a consent and revocation form for mental health services.
