The first step to lower the risk of an overturned DAEP placement or Expulsion in an appeal by a student or parent is to ensure all campus administrators review and follow the Due Process steps. A comprehensive due process checklist is included in the protocol. The Due Process protocol guides in deciding whether to proceed if there is a questionable lack of evidence, in addition to directing the Campus Behavior Coordinator’s accountability in ensuring proper procedures are followed.
TxSP has updated our protocol and documents on a request to appeal a DAEP placement or an Expulsion. The filing drawer includes the following:
- The protocol
- A form for a parent or student to request an appeal
- A response letter
- A script for an appeal hearing
TxSP RECOMMENDS PROVIDING THIS INFORMATION TO ALL CAMPUS ADMINISTRATORS AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SCHOOL YEAR.

Texas School Procedures provides two End-Of-The-Year (EOYs) Checklists for school districts to use to ensure all proper procedures are completed on each campus and at the district level.
The first EOY Checklist in the Campus Operational – For Adm-Procedural filing cabinet is for staff to complete and submit to the campus administrator at the end of the school year. The comprehensive checklist provides action items on end-of-year shutdown requirements and signature initials at checkout completion. Included are classroom shutdown, departmental considerations, technology items, student records and grades, and other items needing attention.
The Non-Renewal and Terminations filing drawer includes a second checklist, Doc.Campus Staff Exit Checklist, in the Personnel Section – Separations Processes. This file drawer for non-returning staff consists of a protocol, documents, and a letter for non-renewals and termination of employees.
