The implementation of Senate Bill 12 (89th Legislature, 2025) has proven challenging for Texas school districts, in large part because the statute continues to require ongoing interpretation, rulemaking, and clarifying guidance from the Texas Education Agency. To help districts stay aligned with the evolving requirements, Texas School Procedures has updated its permission documents for student participation in the school counseling program, school-sponsored activities, and health-related services. These revisions reflect the current provisions of SB 12 and will be updated again as TEA issues further guidance.

Michelle and Debby recently spent some time with a school district’s assistant principal team, delivering hands-on activities at their AP Bootcamp on topics APs deal with every day. The district went all-in on a Top Gun theme, and Michelle and Debby happily suited up for the mission —with Top Gun t-shirts and a running invitation for every AP to “Talk to the Goose” (AKA Texas School Procedures) and how using the website as their go-to-tool will increase their “need for speed” in carrying out their day-to-day challenges.
The activities were designed to move APs from “I read the policy once” to “I can walk through the procedure with confidence” — with real scenarios, small-group problem-solving, and quick-reference walkthroughs of the Campus Operational Section they can pull up on any device.
