Are your administrators staying abreast of disciplinary requirements and best practices? TEC §§ 37.0181, .002 requires that every principal or other appropriate administrator who oversees student discipline receive training on disciplinary action after every legislative session or at least once every three years.
Texas School Procedures has just posted a new workshop for campus administrators that covers the following topics:
- Understanding Effective Discipline
- Using Effective Discipline Tools
- Clarifying Components of Chapter 37
The training includes activities, reflection, and scenario-based learning.
The Texas School Safety Center provides support for safety topics such as developing emergency operation manuals, reunification, and prevention. While TxSP supports the TSSCC, Texas School Procedures provides other procedures to support campuses in their day-to-day safety efforts. See our recent updates in the Campus Operational section that covers topics such as:
- Drill checklists, evaluation, worksheets, feedback, and a Quick Response Reference Guide
- Guidelines on visitors, firearms notification, and storage
- Procedures for using metal detectors and required posts
- Office procedures for students leaving early or coming to school late, as well as students who are not picked up on time
- Playground safety, including supervision for recess and suggested activities
- Safety plans for students that include elopement, unsafe behavior, behavior contracts, no contact contracts, individual safety plans for drills, and more
- What to do when a student threatens to harm themselves or others
- Procedures when the office receives a threat by phone, through a suspicious package or envelope, when a threatening email is sent, or when a computer cyberattack notice is received
